We all know that individual trophies are popularity contests, but what happened at Women’s Ballon d’Or is absolutely revolting

Megan Rapinoe, who had also won the FIFA prize, famous for her activism, totaled just 339 minutes spread over 6 games by her team, Seattle Reign FC, during the year 2019 having scored 0 goals and 0 assists and being eliminated in the semi-finals after a 4th place in the regular round.

You can argue that journalists considered that the performance at the World Cup (United States won it) was enough to receive the prize. After all she was the best scorer of the tournament (tied with England’s Ellen White and United States Alex Morgan – we’ll talk about her) with 6 goals, although 3 of them were penalties and another was scored in the 13- 0 to the amateur selection of Thailand.

In fact, Rapinoe was only really decisive in the quarter-finals by scoring the 2 goals that won the win against France.

Alex Morgan stood in the 3rd place in the Ballon d’Or also had a similar season. The Orlando Pride striker also played 6 games, made 395 minutes, neither scored or made an assist and did not even stand out in the World Cup.

Of the 6 goals that made her the top scorer in the WC 5 of them were on the a 13-0 win against Thailand.

Hell, even Sam Mewis or Rose Lavelle had better performances.

To explain this phenomenon just thinking about the popularity of both. Morgan has over 9 million followers on Instagram, accumulates modeling work.

What i’m trying to argue is that journalists that voted on this poll have no idea of what they’re doing. There are many better players that stood out of the awards like [Vivianne Miedema](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftXfXkgirDk) (who at the age of 23 seems to have the potential to be one of the best players ever), who **scored 49 goals in 47 matches, was the best scorer, best assistant, best player and winner from the Premier League with Arsenal**, and is also currently the best scorer in the Champions League and was runner-up in the world (lost in the final against the United States).

[Ada Hegerberg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vY8uZIhne0M) (2018 winner), who has **scored 30 goals in 31 games in 2019 and won everything for Lyon – Ligue 1, French Cup ,Super Cup and Champions League where she scored an hat-trick in the final** and was the best scorer of competition.

You can even argue for **Samantha Kerr, top scorer (beat the regular-record goal with 18 goals) and MVP (the only non-US to feature in the ideal XI) for the Chicago Red Stars** who were runners-up of women MLS.

This situation is a bit alarming and unbelieving for women, because as much impact as personalities like Megan Rapinoe or Alex Morgan can have on society, such prizes cannot in any way take these aspects into account and a season is not, all in all, consisting of just 6 games and one win in a competition.
